Hauling dirt away
For excavation, footings, pools, utilities and site work, haulers can load and remove spoils by the load or by the hour. Tell us the approximate quantity, how it will be loaded and where it can be dumped.
Bringing fill dirt in
Fill dirt is planned at about 1.10 tons per cubic yard on Dirt Truck's calculators. For structural fill under slabs or roads, confirm compaction requirements with your engineer.
Hourly vs. per-load hauling
Short, repetitive hauls are often priced by the hour; longer hauls by the load or ton. Our Hauling Cost & Cycle-Time calculator estimates loads per day and trucking cost from your load, travel and unload times.

Common questions
How many yards of dirt are in a dump truck load?
A typical tandem dump truck carries roughly 10–14 cubic yards of dirt depending on box size and weight limits; a truck and pup carries more. Wet or heavy material may be limited by weight before the box is full.
Can I get dirt hauled away from my property?
Yes. Post a hauling request with the location, quantity and timing and Dirt Truck will connect you with haulers who can load and remove it.
Is fill dirt the same as topsoil?
No. Fill dirt is subsoil used to raise grade or backfill. Topsoil contains organic material and is used for lawns and planting.
